Both roads are of finely-packed flagstones, once so cunningly fitted that the road seems almost smooth to the touch, now each flagstone is slightly out of position, making the courtyard a bumpy ride in a wagon. The gateways, generally open, lead to the various portions of the city--to the north, the broadest gate, lies Gateshead Way and the majority of Rathain restored. West is the city's outer gate, to the countryside beyond, while eastwards lies the Fortress of Rathain where the King resides. To the south lie little but ruins, unclaimed as yet from the ravages of time by the inhabitants. A cobbled path here leads away to the small wattle-and-daub building that houses the main stables. The floor is layed out in an elaborate display of geometric designs, and the walls are covered ceiling to floor with intricate designs. Expensive tapestries hang around, depicting scenes which one is certain must be out of history though it be a history long forgotten. Directly across from the great doors is a huge archway, going through into the reception chambers beyond. To either side of this archway staircases lift out of the ground, wrapping around until they meet and join to a balcony over looking the chamber. Before the Walls -- Tower Varelle Now nearing the top of the rise, the sea spreads out below to the north, south, and east. The great city of Tirolius, once home to the Nomanhel, is now twice destroyed, waves rolling where once there were beautiful towers. The Nomanhel are thought to blame the Valanhel for the initial destruction of their city. One can only wonder if they remember it still to blame them for the second. To the east are the great gates of the Tower Varelle, the huge metal doors standing open, allowing entry into the courtyard of the tower proper. Hedge Walls -- Tower Varelle The hedge wall you are now standing under seems extremely thick and strong. A full 15 paces deep and 5 paces wide, this archway seems the only way through its impregnable bulk. The ground beneath ones feet is fairly smooth though a root breaks the surface here and there. The temperature in here seems more comfortable than that outside, and the green of the leaves imparts an easy, soothing feeling on those who enter here. To the east, the hill seems to begin so that if one leaves here he immediately begins the climb up to the tower. Obvious exits: West leads to Small Harbor -- Tower Varelle. East leads to Before the Walls -- Tower Varelle. You leave the hedge and head into the harbor. Small Harbor -- Tower Varelle The small harbor serving the now Isle Varelle is as snug a harbor as could be found. It is hard to remember that in the waves just to the west once stood the fabled towers of Tirolius. A smooth stone bulwark reaches out into the sea, providing protection from the waves to the boats in the harbor. The docks are large enough for as many as 2 or 3 boats of decent size with room in the harbor for maybe 2 more at anchor. A small building sits to one side of the wharf, and when one looks up the road they can see straight up the hill to the Tower Varelle. You ascend the gangplank of Windsome Waves. Windsome Waves This massive ocean going vessel is quite clean despite a few barnicles hanging off the bow of the vessel. It is made with large planks of reddish, hard wood and is firmly secured together with a massive amount of rivots making it entirely water-tight. On the bow is an array of ropes to prevent crew going overboard and on the stern is a massive bridge elevated from the rest of the ship. It's enormous wheel handles the direction of the ship and the double masts hold enormous sails which provides the propulsion for the craft. Type +NAVY for help. The darkness gathers, almost as if the sky were filling with clouds, though a look up shows clear skies. A wind picks up, and on the wind rides a slight laughter, crystalline.. And then a voice, quiet and eery..a bit manic.. "They've not yet got the fasination of death out of you, have they boy?" The voice speaks slowly, slurred. "Elves, lovers of life.. Maslo, lover of death.." A almost giggle on the wind, "It's funny, don't you think?" A shiver of fear goes up Maslo's spine as he hears a voice... and what's more, it knows somethings about him. He remains silent, though, still too afraid to talk. The former priest's right hand moves over his left and suddenly disapears. [OOC] Maslo says, "Jeribai's gift." Nikoli smiles grimly, "My name, that which I was given at birth, is Elan Morin. Now is not the time to give you the name I go by now. Understand though I serve not Raughir, but a different evil, a greater power.. the rogue Fiend, Raevnos." His mouth compresses to a grim line though, as Maslo speaks of Noilanra. It stays so, as the winds pick up again, their voice saying, "And so the elves hold you back from power. She it is doubtful would come with us, to gain power.. The child though.." The wind picks up. Visions, dream, thoughts, enter Maslo's mind, of power, "You must become strong Maslo, as must your child. She will stop you, while going stronger herself in her elven magicks. Will you remain weak, Maslo? Will you let your child remain weak?" As the visions and dreams are forced into his mind, the visions and derams in his heart surface. Will he let the elves keep him back from power? No. "What must I do to gain the power? To grow when the elves kept me from growing?" The boy then asks, almost as a whisper, "About the baby that is yet to be born... how shall I show him the power? Noilanra wouldn't want for him to come for power." Maslo has disconnected. The man nods again, and speaks for himself, a calm collected voice, "I will show you power Maslo, and give you the means to share that power with your children. The elves will hold you back, you aren't of their blood. Your child they will not truly care for." He gives Maslo a curious look, "You will age you know. You will be old while she looks the same as she does now, you will die with her looking the same. Join with me, and you might be able to learn the control you need to change that." Maslo holds his robes closer to him as the wind blows, "How will I serve you?" When he hears the last, though, he nods angrily, his eyes a bit watery, "I told them about that... to the Druids... they just said that I should keep to life. Not caring that I was living through something very painful... knowing that my Noilanra and my baby would outlive me for thousands upon thousands of years!" He takes a small step towards him, "What must I do?" The man smiles, calmly. "You understand. You will serve me as you did the Sightless. On the streets, in the taverns, you will listen to what you hear, and perhaps, once I've trained you, even learn to recognize rumors that are false, those that are true. And you will report the to me, so that I not loose touch with what the people think." He smiles, "You see? I am a different evil. I care how the people feel. As for what you must do... For now.. I think you need to return to the tower. Its not yet time to come with me, if you left now you would leave your child in their hands." He ponders for a moment, and says, "Speak with Niolanra.. See if she wishes power. Speak nothing of evil, though, or you may get a response you will not like.. She is not ready to serve yet, if ever she will be. But you must not abandon your child to them." He takes a step forward, his words driving into Maslo's mind, latching on so that he not forget, "You must go back, for now, my young friend. You must say nothing of this, of meeting me. You never saw a thing this day, if the Druids ask. If they learn of this, you will loose all chance of gaining the power you /deserve/." He nods, "Do you understand?" Power shall come to him, power... he won't lose his soul like with the Sightless or have it denied as with the elves. Maslo nods as he talks, "I will talk with her... she must want power too. And she won't have to see me age and die, as I will if I stay here." The former follower of the Demon Lord's eyes close a bit while the message enters his mind. He nods and assures Elan Mori, "I never saw you... but... couldn't the Druids use mentalism, too?" Sweat beads begin to form on his forehead, despite the cold. GAME: The Shadow Rift opens and swallows the database. GAME: The Shadow Rift closes again, satiated for another two hours. Nikoli smiles. "You are indeed bright, Maslo. They could. But why? They trust you. Merely keep your mind clear of the subject, you can do it." He nods, "Act normal, you were brought up with the skills of the street, you know how to lie, how to keep a smooth face. You'll do well." He nods, and turns away, fading, the shadows that formed him billowing out, losing shape, "Remember the power Maslo, if you ever doubt yourself. Believe in yourself." Old Farmsteads -- The Ancient Way, Rathain The last remains of the many fields of beans, squash, and corn are lost among the grasses and scrub that invades the memory of Rathain. Small patches of trees have grown unchecked into dense eves of foliage around the crumbled stone walls of ancient farmhouses. Even less is left of the barns and many out buildings where once pigs and chickes were raised to feed the multitude of peasents in Rathain. Now it is the road you move along that is the only lasting thing of man here. Both roads are of finely-packed flagstones, once so cunningly fitted that the road seems almost smooth to the touch, now each flagstone is slightly out of position, making the courtyard a bumpy ride in a wagon. The gateways, generally open, lead to the various portions of the city--to the north, the broadest gate, lies Gateshead Way and the majority of Rathain restored. West is the city's outer gate, to the countryside beyond, while eastwards lies the Fortress of Rathain where the King resides. To the south lie little but ruins, unclaimed as yet from the ravages of time by the inhabitants. A cobbled path here leads away to the small wattle-and-daub building that houses the main stables. Obvious exits: Northwest leads to Main Stables - City Center -- Rathain. South leads to Ruins - Ledronos Way -- Rathain. North leads to Gateshead Way -- Rathain. West leads to Before the Gates -- Rathain. East leads to Before the Causeway -- Rathainian Stronghold.
